Blind subspace-based eigenstructure identification under nonstationary excitation using moving sensors

Subspace identiication algorithms have proven eecient for performing output-only identiication of the eigenstructure of a linear MIMO system subject to uncontrolled, unmeasured, and nonstationary excitation. Such a problem arises in mechanical engineering, for modal analysis of vibrating structures and machines. A common practice there is to collect data from varying sensor locations, using both xed and moving sensors, in order to mimic the availability of a larger set of sensors. The purpose of this paper is to investigate how subspace-based identiication can be adapted to handle such a situation, to prove its consistency under nonstationary excitation, and to report on a real application example. Steelquake modes and modeshapes identification from multiple sensor pools
Subspace identification algorithms currently emerge as an efficient tool. In this paper, we investigate their use for the output-only identification of the eigenstructure of a linear MIMO system. We focus on the following situation : several successive data sets are recorded, with sensors at different locations in the structure ; for doing this, some of the sensors, called the reference sensors...
On eigenstructure-based direct multichannel blind image restoration
Existing eigenstructure-based direct multichannel blind image restoration techniques include nullspace-based and direct deconvolver estimation techniques. The nullspace-based approach can be formulated as an optimization problem. We show that this formulation implies a new subspace-based approach that uses matrix operations. This new approach has the same advantages as the nullspace-based one b...

We address the problem of structural model identification during normal operating conditions and thus with uncontrolled, unmeasured, and nonstationary excitation. We advocate the use of output-only and covariance-driven subspace-based stochastic identification methods. We explain how to handle nonsimultaneously measured data from multiple sensor setups, and how robustness with respect to nonsta...
Uncertainty Quantification for Stochastic Subspace Identification of Multi-Setup Measurements
In Operational Modal Analysis, the modal parameters (natural frequencies, damping ratios and mode shapes) obtained from Stochastic Subspace Identification (SSI) of a structure, are afflicted with statistical uncertainty. For evaluating the quality of the obtained results it is essential to know the appropriate confidence intervals of these figures. In this paper we present algorithms that autom...
An Overview of Operational Modal Analysis: Major Development and Issues
An overview of the major development of operational modal identification is presented. It includes four time domain approaches, i.e. NExT-type, ARMAV model-based, stochastic realization-based, stochastic subspace-based methods, and two frequency domain approaches, i.e. FDD-type and output-only LSCF-type methods. The internal relation with traditional modal identification using input/output meas...
